Microsoft powers Indian mobile search for Hutchison Essar
In India, Hutchison Essar and Microsoft announced that they would to work together to provide mobile search and other key Windows Live services to HE's subscriber base of over 21 million.
HE's customers will be able to search for and access mobile content and information in a "one-stop integrated search powered by Windows Live Search for mobile", including news, sports, entertainment information and more, directly from the Web.
Steve Ballmer, CEO, Microsoft, explained that Windows Live Search "complements MSN search", and ultimately both the services will be powered by the same underlying technology.
While the Windows Live suite will focus primarily on productivity, the MSN brand will continue to evolve as a media and content destination.
"With India being the fastest growing mobile market in the world, providing a rich set of online services for mobile subscribers is more important than ever," said Ballmer.
He said in countries like India where computer penetration is low, mobility or mobile communication should be more so that information flow is maintained, and that mobile services will drive more uses of search engines and stimulate e-commerce and advertisement markets in India.
