UK women rely on search for dating, more than friends advice

We've reported on the "explosion" of online search, covering a recent Yahoo News report showing a 55% rise in total US search engine activity, and a Deloitte report recently identified online search as the new "killer app" for 2006, ousting e-mail from its comfortable spot.

From London comes a research report conducted by dating firm www.DatingDonut.com show that search engine optimization and promotion is proving the most effective method in attracting women to dating sites.

The survey found that over a half of single females interested in online dating will use a search engines to choose their site versus clicking through banner ads, responding to an email or even advice from friends:

  • Search Engine - 53%
  • Email - 28%
  • Banner Ad - 23%
  • Word of Mouth - 19%
  • Website Link - 16%
  • Website Banner - 9%
  • SMS Text - 7%
  • MMS - 3%

And although many online dating sites have aggressively increased their amount of search word optimization and email and banner advertising, the survey findings show that nearly 1/5 of women now rely on recommendations from friends, suggesting more females are openly discussing their use of dating sites in 2006.

It's staggering that search exceeds personal advice from friends, and by such a margin.

Mobile search is not far away for this vertical!
